“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.”
Albert Einstein
One of the biggest realisations that I have come to through my coaching journey is that we can create our own reality. Our life is a direct summation of our likes/ passions/ pursuits. Think about the people that surround you, the job that you are in, the house that you live in, and all its belongings. All of these have been chosen by you. Your life has been chosen by you.
What I didn’t realise until about 6 years ago however was just how much we can choose what we experience, like an order form on a catalogue, we can actually submit our requests for the life that we would like to lead, and the universe will answer. Ask and ye shall receive.
This process of submitting our requests to the universe is largely recognised as ‘The Law of Attraction’, the idea that what we put out there emotionally and physically is what we attract in life. If we repeatedly complain that life is hard, the world seems against us, and that nothing ever goes right for us, then this is the experience of life we will have. If we go around seeing beauty and grace in every flower, face and event then we will probably fare a bit better.
It wasn't until my 25th year that I seriously put the Law of Attraction into practise however. My husband and I were living abroad in the south of Spain, and I had just found out I was pregnant with our first child. Surrounded by luxury and blue skies and on the precipice of one of the most exciting times of our lives…. I was miserable.
The relentless sunshine and lavish lifestyle brought no joy to me, my husband’s leadership role in his career meant that socialising and community were scarce. He worked long hours and was rarely at home. I was pregnant with my first child, but 1500 miles away from my family. Alone, friendless, homesick and hormonal, I could see no way out of our current situation.
Until that is, I picked up an old copy of ‘The Secret’ which I had first read as a teenager. Revelling back in the idea of creating my own reality, of putting the paintbrush to the canvas of my existence, I quickly got to work visualising the ideal life I truly craved.
Being a country girl through and through, the thing that I truly desired was to be back in the mud and seasons of rural England. I was desperate to replace the monotonous blue skies with rain and drizzle, the far-stretching white sands with crunchy autumn leaves. I created vision board after vision board, documenting my future life. My children and I were to be seen romping through the country side, dogs at our sides, rosy faces and muddy knees. We had friends, a community, pints in the pub and quality time together in front of roaring fires.
I cannot tell you how much I scribbled away during those lonely months, creating, livingthis future life.
And… as if by magic… little by little, the dream started to become a reality.
I won’t divulge all the details of our journey home, but it was as startling, magical and awe-inspiring as you could imagine. For my husband there were ample job opportunities which he could pick and choose from, until he ended up in his dream location, establishment and position. I was able to move back to within 3 minutes from my mother’s front door, and to somebody who had craved mud (specifically) for so long, the cottage provided for us by my husband’s work certainly came up trumps!!
I found the scribblings I had created during those long lonely months a few weeks ago. One of them was my ‘5 year plan’, how I wanted to be living 5 years from that isolated point in the South of Spain. My jaw literally dropped as I read it. EverythingI had written on that list I was now embodying. From mine and my husband’s places of work to the community that we lived in, to the items we had in our home. I was living the life I had created, to a tee.
So, the message I really wanted to transmit through my fond reminiscings is this:
“All that we are is a result of what we have thought” (Buddha).
So start thinking creatively! If you are unhappy with your current lot in life, do something to actively change it. Bring into your life everything that you love, are passionate about, are interested in, and start living and breathing your dream life, now! You have the power to change the course of your life, just as you have been the creator of the life you are leading thus far.
Take control. Dream big. Live magnificently.
I would love to help you with creating the life you long to live, so hop on a call with me today and let's get started!
